Kenilworth Castle

On the way back from Wales we stopped at Kenilworth castle for a few hours. The castle was built around the year 1120. In 1210 the castle was surronded by a watery "mere"- basically a man made lake. Over the centuries the Castle changed hands several times. One noteworthy owner was Robert Dudley who took possession of the castle in 1563. who created the Elizabethan gardens that are on the property for Queen Elizabeth as well as the Leicester Building for a 20 day visit from the queen. The castle "keep" was destroyed in 1649. Rendering the castle indefensible.
